BC Future Stars: Meet Adrianna Buitelaar!

We are thrilled to continue our BC Future Stars series here at MileSplit BC! This week, we're shining the spotlight on an exceptional athlete making waves in the middle and long-distance running scene: meet Adrianna Buitelaar!

A student at Mennonite Educational Institute (MEI) and a proud member of the Valley Royals Track and Field Club, Buitelaar has established herself as a formidable competitor. Her achievements on the track and trails speak volumes about her talent, positioning her among the top young athletes in British Columbia.

Adrianna's most recent accomplishments were nothing short of spectacular. At the 2024 BC School Sports Track and Field Provincial Championships, she showcased her dominance in the junior girls' category, clinching victories in both the 1,500m and 3,000m events. She completed the 1,500m in an impressive 4:33 and the 3,000m in 10:01. Her success continued at the 2024 Legion National U18 Championships, where she once again excelled, winning the 3000m and finishing third in the 1500m.

Notably, during the 2024 season, Buitelaar set the fastest U18 indoor mark in Canada for the 3000m at the University of Washington's High School Invitational, clocking in at 9:50.67 and outpacing her competitors by over 13 seconds.

Moving to the trails, this past weekend she opened her 2024 cross-country season at the Vancouver Spirit Run, winning the U18 race by over a minute with a time of 17:32 for the 5km distance.

These highlights are just a glimpse of what Adrianna has accomplished in her young career.
