We're excited to highlight another incredible talent in our BC Future Stars series at MileSplit BC! This week, the spotlight is on Sasha Dehal, a young athlete made waves this cross country season!
Representing Panorama Ridge Secondary during the high school season and competing for Ocean Athletics Track and Field Club, Dehal has been a dominant force this year, showcasing her talent on the provincial stage.
During the 2024 cross-country season, Dehal clinched the Junior Girls 4km title at the BC School Sports Provincial Championships with an impressive time of 16:08, finishing 12 seconds ahead of second place, in a field of 266 competitors. She also secured a commanding victory at the South Fraser Zone Championships, completing the 4km course in 14:48.40-over a minute ahead of the field. Adding to her accomplishments, Dehal also emerged victorious in the U16 Girls race at the BC Athletics Cross Country Provincial Championships.
Dehal's success isn't limited to the trails; her talent shines equally on the track. This past season, she earned silver medals in the Junior Girls 1500m and 3000m at the BC School Sports Track and Field Championships and claimed gold in the Junior Girls 1500m and 3000m at the South Fraser Zone Championships.
She also extended her speed beyond provincial borders, with standout performances at the prestigious Oregon Relays, where she finished 6th in the 3000m and 5th in the 2-mile race.
With no signs of slowing down, Sasha Dehal is unquestionably a rising star in British Columbia's running community. We can't wait to see what the future holds for this talented athlete as she continues to make her mark on the cross country trails and around the circles of the track.
