BC Future Stars: Meet Janaya Sandhu!
We're excited to introduce another standout athlete in our BC Future Stars series here at MileSplit BC! This week, we're highlighting an exceptional young runner who has been making waves on the cross country and track scene.
Representing École Salish Secondary, Sandhu just captured the AAA Senior Girls title at the 2024 South Fraser XC Championships, conquering the 5km course in a time of 20:44.1. Her dominant performance left a 10-second gap between her and the second place finisher, securing her a well-deserved victory.
Earlier in the season, Sandhu had demonstrated her talent on a larger stage at the Nike Hole in the Wall XC Invitational, competing in the Varsity Gold Girls 5km race. She placed an impressive 16th out of 136 athletes, crossing the finish line with a time of 19:43.60. Not to mention at the Campbell Valley XC meet on October 2nd, she delivered another strong showing, finishing 3rd in the 5km race with a time of 19:37.80.
Sandhu's achievements on the track are equally remarkable. During the 2024 track and field season, she placed 5th in the Junior Girls 1,500m at the BCSS Provincial Championships with a time of 4:51.77. She also secured second-place finishes in the 800m at both the South Fraser Zone Championships (2:26.30) and the Surrey High School Track and Field Championships (2:24.69).
Keep an eye on Janaya Sandhu as she continues to make her mark in BC's running community-the future is bright for this rising star!
