In this week's edition of BC Future Stars, we're highlighting a rising talent on the cross-country and track scene: meet Arjun Sandhu!
The École Salish Secondary student has has quickly made a name for himself in the running world. Whether on the track or in cross-country, Sandhu's dedication and talent have earned him a spot among the top young athletes in the province. His list of accolades is already impressive for an athlete his age.
Sandhu's most recent feat? At the 2024 Surrey High School Championships, as a Grade 10 athlete, he dominated the 3000m, clocking a time of 9:07.29. But his talents don't stop there. As he enters Grade 11 this fall, Sandhu kicked off the 2024 cross-country season with a bang at the Thunderbirds XC Rust Buster Relays, running the two fastest splits of the entire U18 4x2km relay - an incredible 6:15 in the first leg and 6:24 in his anchor leg. His team, composed of himself, Jason Sandhu and Abhiraj Nagra, claimed victory with a combined time of 26:45.

During the 2023 season, as a Grade 9 athlete, Sandhu made waves by earning silver in the 3000m at the BC High School Track & Field Championships, finishing fifth in the 1500m, and sixth in the 800m. He followed this up by winning the 800m, 1200m, and 2000m at the BC Club Provincial Championships, cementing his status as one to watch by breaking the U16 National Record in the 2000m at the Legion National Championships.
With his immense potential and work ethic, Sandhu is shaping up to be a force on both the provincial and national stages. Expect to see more big things from him in the seasons to come!
