BC Future Stars: Laken Olson

BC Future Stars: Meet Laken Olson

This week in our BC Future Stars series on MileSplit BC, we turn the spotlight to Laken Olson, a Grade 10 showing early promise running trails and chasing laps.

Olson has already made a name for himself this season. He claimed victory at the Big Valley Clash Junior Boys 4km, finishing in 13:34, one of only two athletes to break the 14-minute barrier.

He has consistently performed at a high level. At last year's BC School Sports XC Provincial Championships, he placed 5th in the 4km with a time of 14:44 and earlier in the year he finished second at the 2024 Eastern Valley XC Zone Championships, running 13:13 over 4km and joining just two other athletes in a field of 82 under 14 minutes.

Olson has proved himself on the track as well. At the 2025 BC School Sports Provincial Track and Field Championships, he was the first Grade 9 athlete to cross the line in the Junior Boys 3000m, finishing 6th overall in 9:18.

With performances like these, Laken Olson is already showing he can compete with the best. He is a young athlete to watch as the season unfolds.
