Matti Erickson Claims Big Ten 800m Title in 1:46.86

Establishing Himself Among the NCAA's Best (2024)

Erickson had a great 2024 indoor season, becoming the seventh-fastest performer in Oregon's school history over 800m with a 1:47.92 at the Razorback Invitational. Outdoors, Erickson continued his momentum, finishing third in the 800m at the Pac-12 Championships (1:48.84) and contributing to his team's 4x400m relay. He advanced to the NCAA West Prelims, clocking 1:48.44 in the second round to finish 14th overall, just two spots shy of a national qualifier.

Summer Success and Big Ten Championship (2024-Now)

This past summer, Erickson hit new personal bests, running 1:45.74 at the Portland Track Festival in June. He also placed third in the 800m at the Canadian Track and Field Championships, finishing in 1:46.79, and ran 1:46.43 at the Jerome Track Classic.

Most notably, Erickson captured the 800m title at the Big Ten Conference Championships just a few days ago, crossing the line in 1:46.86. His performances have propelled him to a current NCAA ranking of 16th in the 800m. The best is yet to come.
