It's time to vote for the BC Performer of the Week!
This past weekend it was time for athletes to bust off the rust for the XC season ahead and they did so at the 2024 Thunderbirds Rust Buster XC Relays. This was a unique event bringing together mixed-gender teams and age-category showdowns. Teams of 2-4 athletes raced through challenging loops, with JD runners taking on 1.0 km and U16/U18/Senior competitors pushing through 2.0 km legs. Congrats to all the teams who competed! But let's get into just some of the athletes who excelled on the trails!
Arjun Sandhu - Sandhu ran the two fastest 2km relay splits out of all competitors in the 4x2km relay. The U18 athlete took to the course running 6:15 during the first leg and and 6:24 during his anchor leg. His team, complied of Thunderbird athletes, won the U18 race in a time of 26:45!
James Lamers - Lamers ran the third fastest 2km relay split with a time of 6:25 in the 4x2km relay. This split was during his first leg run. He ran his anchor leg in a time of 6:44.
Chloe Symon - Symon ran the second fastest 2km female leg out of all competitors during the 4x2km relay. The U18 athlete ran a time of 7:09, the 23rd fastest split among all racers, with only one female ahead of her, who was in the senior division.
Tamara Hamze - Hamze, a U13 athlete, competing in the 4x1km relay, ran a split of 2:51, which was the fourth fastest split out of all competitors in that race. She was in reach of Theo Davidson who ran the fastest 1km split in 2:50. Hamze's team placed 9th overall.
