2024 BCSS Champs: Day Two Recap


As we gear up for the 4x400m finals tomorrow, here are your top qualifiers: 

Senior Girls: Oak Bay Secondary 

Senior Boys: Robert Alexander McMath Secondary 

Junior Girls: GW Graham Secondary 

Junior Boys: North Delta Secondary 

The field was just as busy as the track on day 2, with 16 new BC Champions crowned in the circle and in the pits. 

There was plenty of vertical jumping action today, as both high jump and pole vault events took place on day 2. Marlena Tresnjo has been unstoppable recently, as she took yet another BC Championship in the Senior Girls High Jump with a jump of 1.76m. Lydia Paris jumped 1.60m for silver while Nova Wedmann-Kent won the bronze on countback. In the Senior Boys High Jump, Alec Brent of Alpha Secondary soared to a 2.08m performance for the title, with Keegan Farrell jumping 1.95m for silver and Leupold Wang also clearing 1.95m for bronze. 

Nathalie Flood of New Westminster Secondary successfully defended her Senior Girls Pole Vault title by over half a meter, improving on her vault from last year with a vault of 3.52m. Lucy Russell and Maj Mack were second and third with leaps of 3.00m and 2.50m, respectively. In a new BC High School Championship Junior Boys record, Tyler Hvidson vaulted 3.71m for the title. Makaio Maver jumped 3.40m for silver, and Teo Molina jumped 3.20m for bronze. 

The horizontal jumps produced exciting results as well. 

Omar Turro Masso of New Westminster Secondary jumped to a 13.69m performance to win the Senior Boys Triple Jump title. Leupold Wang added to his day 2 medals with a silver medal performance, while Quinn Krutzmann won the bronze. In the Junior Boys Triple Jump,

David Ude was the only athlete to surpass 12m, with a jump of 13.45m. James Rideout won the silver and Mevin Malo won the bronze. 

In a new BC High School Junior Girls record, Lily Stroda won her second medal of the day in the Junior Girls Long Jump, smashing the old record of 5.44m with a 5.70m jump. Kealayna Tupas-Singh matched the previous record with a 5.44m jump for silver, and Lily Stewart jumped 5.32m for the bronze. Avionne Marie Dean is your Grade 8 Girls Long Jump champion as well as the 100m champion, with a jump of 4.85m.
