2024 BCSS Champs: Day Two Recap


We had our first round of sprinting champions on day 2 as well, with several records broken. 

In the Senior Boys 100m Final, Adam Sieben of Duchess Park took home the title with a time of 10.71 into a slight headwind. Pishon Haughton won the silver also running sub-11, and just an hour after winning the hurdles, Fagbamiye won the bronze. Ludovica Avigni of Cowichan Secondary was crowned the champion in the Senior Girls 100m into a heavy headwind with a time of 12.58. Makenna Self, last year's junior champion, came second while Alexandra Tenn came third. 

In the Junior Girls 100m, Kealayna Tupas-Singh broke the junior record previously held by Emma Cannan, running 12.23 (+0.2) to be crowned BC Champion. Kiara Malcolm and Isabel Ogbes took the second and third podium spots, respectively. In the Junior Boys 100m, Tason Tran won the event with an 11.14 run, with Christian Aghedo in second and Joe Yee Scott in third. 

In the Grade 8 Girls 100m, Avionne Marie Dean broke the Grade 8 Invitational record for the gold, running 12.47. In the Grade 8 Boys 100m, Luc Trollip won the gold medal. 

The 400m finals also took place on day 2, producing some of the quickest finals in recent years. 

Shortly after winning silver in the 100m, Pishon Haughton of Okanagan Mission ran an incredible 47.44 second 400m, winning the Senior Boys 400m by nearly 2 seconds and coming close to the record. Hayden Hall won the silver, and Garrett Chin the bronze. An incredible 5 of the finalists went sub-50. Speaking of fast finals, all of the competitors in the Senior Girls 400m went sub-60, with Maiya Brunoro of Langley Christian taking the championship in a time of 55.51. Chloe Symon came second while Maya Vizina came third. 

In the Junior Girls 400m final, 7 competitors went sub-60. Madeline VanSpall upgraded last year's bronze to a gold, running 56.58, close to the junior record. Alexia Latore (last year's 200m junior champion) and Kionae Roberts were second and third, respectively. Derek Frimpong won the Junior Boys 400m with a time of 50.73, while Gavin Esleyer won the silver and Luca Bertoia won the bronze. 

Sofia Zenone won the Grade 8 Girls 400m by 2 seconds, running 1:00.87. Luc Trollip won his second gold medal of the day, winning the Grade 8 Boys 400m in a time of 53.03.
