The 2025 NCAA Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships, held from March 14-15 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center, marked the first time the event took place in Virginia Beach. The championships showcased the incredible talent of Canadian athletes on the biggest stage for collegiate athletes. Let's dive in to see what past BC High School Champions, Team Canada Members and Olympians go up to on the track and in the field!
One of the most exciting moments came from Matti Erickson of the University of Oregon. Erickson made history by winning the men's 800m title in 1:46.43, narrowly defeating fellow Canadian Abdullahi Hassan of Mississippi State University, who surged in the final 50m. This victory not only earned Erickson the NCAA title but also marked the first time that two Canadian men claimed the top two spots in a middle-distance event at an NCAA Championship.
Will Floyd, representing the University of Georgia, also delivered a remarkable performance, capturing the men's 400m title with a winning time of 45.43. Floyd's victory came after a fierce battle with Baylor's Nathaniel Ezekiel, and was a continuation of his impressive season, which included a silver medal at the SEC Indoor Championships and a personal best of 45.24. Floyd's success follows in the footsteps of his Canadian teammate and training partner Christopher Morales Williams, who won the 400m indoor title in 2024.
On the women's side, Vancouver's Ceili McCabe made history by becoming the first Canadian woman to win an NCAA indoor title in the 3,000m. McCabe, in her final collegiate indoor race, posted a time of 9:01.64, securing a new facility record and making her the first athlete from West Virginia University (WVU) to claim the event at a national championship.
