NANAIMO, BC -- Alexa Dow, of Frances Kelsey Secondary in British Columbia, Canada, held nothing back en-route to winning the senior 1,500m at the British Columbia School Sports Provincial Championships on Friday.
Dow ran a stellar 4:27.64, which is a season best for the 11th-grader. She previously cruised through the preliminary round in a 4:54.01.
Rachel McDonald of Southridge School was second in 4:45.95.
Her mark in the finals is off of her personal best by nine seconds. In 2023, she ran 4:18.64 to break the British Columbia U18 1,500m record at the Harry Jerome Track Classic.
Dow is next expected to compete at the Canadian National Championships in Montreal in the U20 Division. She will contend for an opportunity to represent Team Canada at the U20 World Junior Championships in Peru later this summer.
In April, Dow made her commitment to attend and compete for North Carolina State University (NC State). She will make a strong addition to the NC State women. The program, three-time defending champions in NCAA cross country, are considered one of the top distance contingents in the NCAA Division I ranks.
