Six centimeters.
Six centimeters made all the difference for Rowan Hamilton as he won his first NCAA title in the Hammer Throw at the Division I Men's Track and Field Championship.
Hamilton, who now competes for the University of California, unleashed a throw of 77.18m in the third round. That mark narrowly held off Harvard's Kenneth Ikeji who threw 77.12m.
Ikeji's mark also came in the third round.
For the University of California, Hamilton is the program's first individual champion in the Hammer Throw since 1922.
Hamilton originally attended Sardis Secondary in British Columbia before going on to compete at the University of British Columbia. He appeared in the 2022 and 2023 World Championships, finishing 17th and 13th in the two events.
He is also a three-time NAIA Champion, NAIA Record Holder, UBC record holder and now a program-record holder at the University of California.
