BC Athletes Compete Against Elite Fields in the U.S.
This past weekend, a number of British Columbia athletes crossed the border to compete in some of the most competitive pro and collegiate meets in the U.S., going head-to-head with top-level competition and making their mark on the national rankings. These are just some of the standout performances!

Bryan Clay Invitational - Azusa, California
Ryan Lofstrom, a senior athlete from the Okanagan Athletics Club, took on loaded fields in both the 100m and 200m. Lofstrom ran 11.13 to place 49th out of 60 competitors in the 100m, where the winning time was 10.35. He followed that up with a 22.02 in the 200m, placing 32nd out of 50. His 100m seasons best of 11.06 from earlier this month in Vernon currently ranks him 3rd in Canada in the U20 division.
Charlie Mlotshwa of the Prairie Inn Harriers delivered a strong performance in the 1500m, clocking 3:48.00 in the Open A division. He finished 35th in a massive field of 124 athletes - a time that would place him 1st in Canada among U20 athletes.
Pacific Coast Intercollegiate - Long Beach, California
York House senior Sofia Varma-Vitug ran 12.34 (+3.0) in the 100m to place 39th out of 74 collegiate athletes. She also jumped 5.22m in the long jump, placing 41st in a field of 50.
Lofstrom returned to competition with improved marks, running 10.65 (+3.8) in the 100m to finish 25th out of 81. In the 200m, he posted a 21.81 to place 31st out of 72, moving him up to 2nd in Canada in the U20 rankings - an improvement from his 21.92 earlier this month in Vernon.
Beach Invitational - Long Beach, California
Varma-Vitug continued her weekend of competition with a strong showing in the triple jump, leaping 11.57m to place 18th in the invitational section. That mark ranks her 4th in Canada in the U20 division.
Mt. SAC Relays - Walnut, California
Lily Stroda had an impressive outing in the high school invitational section. She finished 7th in the 100m hurdles in 14.35, took 2nd in the long jump with a leap of 5.68m, and placed 5th in the high jump with a mark of 1.60m. Her long jump performance ranks her 1st in Canada among U20 athletes.
