In the world of track and field, history does not just happen, it gets thrown. At this year's Harry Jerome Indoor Games, Talia Phangura delivered a performance that has resonated across British Columbia's throwing community. She launched won the open women's shot put with an incredible 13.98 meters. This is the furthest indoor mark by a BC high school thrower ever.

Phangura's rise has been both steady and spectacular. At the 2024 BC High School Track and Field Championships, the North Surrey Secondary standout achieved what no female athlete had done before by claiming the throws triple crown, winning shot put, hammer, and discus gold in a single meet. 

Her achievements have earned her a nomination as a finalist for Sport BC's High School Female Athlete of the Year, a recognition of her dominance and impact in BC's youth track and field scene. Her technique, strength, and mental focus allow her to perform at the highest level across both indoor and outdoor competitions, and the Harry Jerome Games were no exception.

The indoor season presents unique challenges. Athletes must adjust to smaller arenas, different throwing surfaces, and limited competition opportunities. Phangura met these challenges head-on, proving that her talent is not limited to one stage or season.
