Jasneet Nijjar Focuses on the 400m
After being selected for the 4x400m pool for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Nijjar has been selected once again for the World Championships. She helped Team Canada qualify for the championships in the relays at the World Relay Championships this past spring. Nijjar ran for the Women's 4x400m Relay, where Team Canada punched its ticket to these championships.
Nijjar hails from Surrey, and had a dominant high school career. In 2018, she became the third girl in championship history to win the 100m, 200m, and 400m in the same weekend at the BC High School Championships. That same year, she became the Canadian U20 Champion in the 200m with a time of 23.91w (+2.6). In her grade 12 year in 2019, she won the 100m, 200m, and 100m Hurdles. During her high school career, she also represented Canada at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games, finishing 2nd in the 400m.
After high school, Nijjar pursued a collegiate career at Washington State University, where she took on the challenge of training for the multi events. While she continued her 400m training, she also took on training for the heptathlon. She won multiple conference medals in the relays, helping WSU to the podium in a competitive PAC-12 conference.
Now she has her eyes set on the 400m, having finished 4th at last year's Canadian Championships. With a personal best of 51.84, Nijjar is one of the best 400m athletes in Canada right now!
