BC Goes the Distance

BC has always been known as a distance running powerhouse, and BC athletes proved that this weekend. Despite the higher altitude of Calgary relative to most parts of our province, these athletes battled it out for the podium.

Adrianna Buitelaar, Canadian U18 Record holder in the mile, was the 2025 National Champion in the U18 Girls 3000m with a time of 9:41.19. In the U16 Girls 2000m, Clara Simpson was the queen of the long distance with a time of 6:15.40. Simpson also won bronze in the 1200m with a time of 3:41.54.

In a close race that saw the podium decided by a matter of seconds, Riley Simmonds won bronze for BC in the U18 Boys 1500m with a time of 3:59.30. In the steeplechase, Lienke Raath took home the gold for BC in the U16 Girls 1500m Steeplechase with a time of 4:53.21.

Overall, Team BC had an excellent showing at Legions! Team BC had an exclamation mark showing in Calgary this year. WIth some of these athletes moving onto Canada Summer Games next week, keep your eyes on this talented squad!
