Who to Look Out For: 2025 BC Club Championships

The peak event of the summer for BC athletes, the 2025 BC Athletics Outdoor Track and Field Championships, are ready to go this weekend! The event taking place in Coquitlam this year is shaping up to be an exciting one, as a record 939 athletes take part.

This event is especially important for U18 and U16 athletes, who will be giving their all to make Team BC for this year's Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships in Calgary, AB.

We anticipate an extremely exciting weekend ahead! With so many athletes entered, it's impossible to cover all the storybook moments that are going to happen this weekend. Here are just a few potential performances to watch for.

U16 Girls Provincial Sprint Records: Going, going... gone?

Jaylah Dennis and Avionne Dean have been on fire this year. After rewriting the BCHS record books, they now have their eyes on the BC record books.

Dennis has already bested the BC U16 200m record of 24.50 with a 24.00 clocking to win the Junior Girls 200m title at BCHS. Dean was also under the old record with her silver medal performance at BCHS. The record had stood for 26 years.

Now, the next short sprint record to take down is in sight. The BC U16 100m record is 11.85, set 17 years ago. Dennis enters this weekend with a seed time of 11.86 and Dean with a time of 11.92. We could very well see the fastest U16 sprint performance in BC history this weekend.

Long Hurdle Showdown

Making Team BC for the Legion Nationals is no easy feat- made even more difficult by roster caps. As BC can only take a maximum of 2 athletes per event, some events this weekend will be a battle.

Three U18 boys already hold the standard for the 400m hurdles, with Levi Venables leading the way with a seed time of 54.43. Close behind is Devan Kozak and Ethan Moran with times of 55.19 and 55.49, respectively.

The final will be exciting as these three- as well as their fellow competitors - will duke it out in one last chance to lower their times prior to team selection.
