Record-Breaking Action at Vancouver Sea to Sky Zone Champs

The 2025 Vancouver Sea to Sky (VS2S) Zone Championships took place May 22-23 at Swangard Stadium, bringing together the top qualifying athletes from the VSSAA, North Shore/Howe Sound, and Independent leagues. Student-athletes earned their spots by advancing through their respective league championships, with berthing allocations of 4 for Independent, 6 for North Shore/Howe Sound, and 6 for Vancouver.

The championship was marked by a wave of record-breaking performances across numerous disciplines, showcasing the exceptional talent rising through BC's track and field scene. Here are just some of the highlights from the meet - each athlete mentioned broke a meet record in the process.

Sprinting

Ali McKinney of York House shattered the Grade 8 girls 100m meet record with 13.31 seconds, while Cole Waters dominated the Grade 8 boys division in 11.81. Bradley Li clocked 11.51 in the Junior Boys race and Massimo Ardizzoni nearly broke the 11-second barrier in the senior men's 100m, setting a new record at 11.02 seconds.

In the 200m, Cole Waters again impressed with a 23.65 in the Grade 8 Boys section, Chioma Uzozie took the Grade 8 girls title in 24.49, and Chloe Symon won the Senior Girls race in 24.98.

Mid-Distance

The 400m saw record-breaking wins from Chioma Uzozie (Grade 8 Girls, 1:01.64), Cole Pagliaro (Junior Boys, 52.25), Chloe Symon (Senior Girls, 56.63), and Spencer Blomerus (Senior Boys, 50.00).

Over 800m, Stella Hudec (Grade 8 Girls, 2:28.14), Ciel Fitzpatrick (Junior Girls, 2:18.19), and Jacob Amos (Senior Boys, 1:59.71) all set new meet records. The 1500m featured Teddy Nelson of Mulgrave (Grade 8 Boys, 4:42.30) and Ciel Fitzpatrick (Junior Girls, 4:43.16) continuing the streak of meet record performances.

In the longest track event of the championship, the 3000m, Alexandre Comeau (Grade 8 Boys, 9:50.53), Charlotte Lang (Junior Girls, 10:28.37), and Andrew Neill of WPGA (Senior Boys, 8:54.95) each set new benchmarks.
