Camryn Rogers is running out of records to break and rewriting her own might just be the only way to keep the chase alive.
At the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, the reigning Olympic and world champion let loose with a massive 78.88-metre hammer throw to win the event and set yet another Canadian record. The mark surpassed her previous national best of 78.62 metres from 2023 and broke her own Diamond League record (77.76m), set last year at the same venue.
The 26-year-old from Richmond, B.C., unleashed the winning throw on her fourth attempt, dominating a strong field that included Americans Brooke Andersen (76.95m) and DeAnna Price (75.35m).
Already glittering with Olympic gold from Paris and a world title, Rogers' throw now ranks No. 2 in the world this year and No. 5 on the all-time global list. It's a career-defining mark for most - but just another step forward for an athlete who insists her journey is far from over.
The Prefontaine Classic also showcased Canada's growing hammer throw power. In the men's event, Ethan Katzberg of Nanaimo, B.C. - himself a reigning Olympic and world champion - threw 81.73m to finish second. Chilliwack's Rowan Hamilton placed seventh after a final-round throw of 76.36m.
