Yemane Mulugeta: A Stellar Start at TWU

Trinity Western University's Yemane Mulugeta has quickly made a name for himself in Canadian university athletics. After an impressive high school career, Mulugeta's transition to university competition has been both exciting and challenging, filled with personal bests and a growing hunger for improvement.

Choosing TWU: A Natural Fit

For Mulugeta, signing with TWU felt like the perfect decision. "It's close to home, I have a friend on the rugby team, and I knew Coach Sarah from high school XC races," he shared. With a strong support system and familiarity with the program, the transition felt seamless.

A Strong Freshman Year

Mulugeta's first year at TWU has been marked by steady progress. His efforts were rewarded at the U SPORTS Cross Country Championships, where he finished fourth overall with a time of 23:34-an achievement that earned him the prestigious U SPORTS Rookie of the Year title. "I had some good races and was happy with my progress, but there's more to come. I want to get faster," he said.

Training and University Life

While training volume hasn't drastically increased from high school, Mulugeta has maintained his strong work ethic. "I have always pushed hard in training, so that's the same. I am having lots of fun and just want to keep pushing it," he explained. Balancing academics and athletics has been a challenge, but racing against older, more experienced competitors has motivated him even more.
