2024 BC School Sports Provincial Cross Country Championships Preview

The excitement is building as BC's top high school cross-country runners prepare to compete at the 2024 BC School Sports Provincial Cross Country Championships, held at the scenic Jericho Park in Vancouver on Saturday, November 2nd. Following a series of Zone Championships held across the province this past week, the athletes have earned their spots to compete for the prestigious provincial titles and the six championship banners on offer.

Qualifying Through the Zones

The Zone Championships serve as the qualifier for the Provincial Championships, with each zone across British Columbia allocated a certain number of berths for top finishers. This year, runners from the following zones will be represented:

  • North Central
  • Northwest
  • Kootenays
  • Thompson Okanagan
  • Eastern Valley
  • Fraser North
  • South Fraser
  • Vancouver Island
  • Vancouver Sea to Sky

With varying numbers of berths available across these zones, each race at the Provincials will be highly competitive as athletes from every corner of BC will compete for the provincial titles.

Event Schedule

The Provincial Championships will kick off with the Para and AWE (Athletes with Exceptionalities) races at 9:00 AM, followed by events for Junior and Senior divisions throughout the day.  Seniors will race approximately 5km, Junior approximately 41.km and Para approximately 2km. Here's a look at the full schedule:


  • 9:00 AM - Para & AWE Boys and Girls*
  • 9:30 AM - Junior Girls*
  • 10:00 AM - Junior Boys*
  • 10:30 AM - Senior 'A'/'AA' Girls**
  • 11:15 AM - Senior 'A'/'AA' Boys**
  • 12:00 PM - Senior 'AAA' Girls
  • 12:45 PM - Senior 'AAA' Boys
  • 2:00 PM - Awards Ceremony @ West Point Grey Academy


(*Para/AWE & Junior Awards will be presented after races on course. **Senior A/AA races will be run as one race but scored separately.)

Championship Titles

With six banners at stake - Senior Boys (A/AA/AAA) and Senior Girls (A/AA/AAA) - this year's Championship will feature intense battles across all categories. The athletes in each division are well-prepared following their impressive showings at the Zone Championships, setting the stage for some memorable performances.
