ICYMI: BC Has Strong Showing at Legions

Leaping to Success

BC's Praise Aniamaka can breathe a sigh of relief- his Championship Record lives another year! David Ude nearly broke it in the U16 Men's Triple Jump, jumping 13.72m. Ude won the gold by over half a meter.

Sofia Varma-Vitug also had an excellent showing in the jumps, winning a pair of silver medals in the U18 Women's Triple and Long Jumps. Varma-Vitug was only 1cm behind the gold medallist in the triple jump, and the pair had 15cm on the field.

Striding to Victory

Team BC enjoyed plenty of success on the track, too. Chloe Symon won the gold in the U18 Women's 400m, breaking the 55-second barrier with a 54.99 performance. Raiya Matonovich also had a barrier-breaking performance of 2:09, taking the silver in the U18 800m.

BC brought the distance running heat to the track, lead by Adrianna Buitelaar's gold medal in the U18 3000m. Buitelaar also took home the silver medal in the 1500m. In the U18 Men's 1500m, Charlie Mlotshwa just barely missed out on gold, taking home silver with a 3:59 run. In a BC 2-3, Noah Louwerse took home bronze with a 4:01 run. BC also went 2-3 in the U18 men's 3000m, with Mlotshwa taking home another silver and Peter Kunka taking the bronze.

Team BC's two relay medals came from the quartet of Ache Tateh, Hayden Hurtubise, Finn Adamson, and Simon Smallacombe, who took the silver medal in the U16 Men's Sprint Medley Relay, showcasing Team BC's depth. On the women's side the 4x400m squad of Latore, Matonovich, Stroda and Symon placed second in a time of 3:49.02, a new BC record!

Milesplit BC would like to congratulate all members of Team BC on excellent performances in Calgary, as well as congratulate all BC athletes who competed. Thank you to the coaches and volunteers for helping our athletes achieve these amazing results!
