BC HS Champ, Charlie Mlotshwa Has Big Goals This XC Season!

The momentum just continued from there. During the 2023 track and field season Mlotshwa ran an eight second personal best in the 3000m at the BC High School Track and Field Championships, to not only become the Junior Champion, but by running a time of 8:39.55, he broke the meet record in the process. He later lowered this time to 8:32.55 at the U20 Bell Canadian Track and FIeld Championships where he placed fifth. As for his other discipline, the 1500m, he ended the season 3:55.57, which he ran at the Victoria Track Classic. At the time this was a national leading mark in the U18 division.

"My goals for the season were to break 4:00 in the 1500 and run 8:37 in the 3000m. I definitely achieved my goals. One of my biggest goals however was to make the national team, but since I don't yet have my citizenship I couldn't make one of the teams. That being said, next season I definitely have my eye on making the U20 World Championship Team."

Now all focus is on the current 2023 cross country season with the Vancouver Island league meets starting this week in Lambrick Park.

"It will be a good test to see where my fitness is at. As for my goals for the year, I want to double as champion at the BC High School Championships and BC Club Championships again, with my biggest goal being to win the U18 ACXC title."

With that Mlotshwa leaves us with some parting words and advice.

"Keep your head down and keep pushing. You have to put in the work for the results to show."
