Ryan Lofstrom runs 10.87 to break the Island Record!

Ryan Lofstrom of Carihi Secondary is definitely one to watch this season, with the BC High School Track and Field Championships less than a month away.

Rewind to the 2022 outdoor season and here is how it went.

At the BC High School Track & Field Championships Lofstrom, in his first year in the Junior category, placed 7th in the 100 (11.68), 4th in the 200 (23.39) and 4th in the shot put (11.83m).

Just over a month later Lofstrom competed at the BC Summer Games in Prince George. He won the 100m (11.41) and 200m (23.14), in addition to being part of the 4x100m relay gold winning team. Not to mention Lofstrom also took home silver in the shot put.

Shortly after at Legion Nationals in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Lofstrom competed for Team BC, placing third in the U16 Boys 100m (11.58) and 200m (23.69), second in the 300m (36.50) and was part of the gold medal winning medley relay.

Flash-forward to 2023 and Lofstrom is already way ahead of where he was last year!

At the North Island Championships that took place May 3th - May 4th and the Bob Dailey Stadium in Port Alberni, BC, Lofstrom set two new Island Records. He won the Junior Boys 100m in an impressive time of 10.87 seconds - second place was 11.80. Lofstrom also ran a commanding 200m in 22.37, ahead of the next competitor by almost a second.

According to the BC High School Track & Field Championship Meet Records (last updated 2018) the Junior Boys 100 record is currently held by Anastas Eliopoulos at 11.12 seconds and the 200 at 22.46, held by Felix Richter. So keep your eyes out!

Next up on the high school meet circuit, Lofstrom will be competing at the Vancouver Island Secondary School Championships later this month.
