Oregon Relays: Canadians Excell Across the Border

The 2024 Oregon Relays, steeped in rich history and sprinkled with the power of Hayward magic, once again welcomed back the very best in high school athletics to compete. The iconic meet, known for its storied tradition, is one of the most prominent track and field meets in the United States, also attracting athletes from various colleges and universities, as well as professional. This year, a contingent of high school athletes from British Columbia crossed the border to compete alongside their American counterparts. This was a great opportunity for them to showcase their talent and hard work on a big stage and get a taste of international competition.

A number of athletes finished within the top fifteen of their respective events - let's get into it!

Top Performances by BC's Best:


  • Elise Drake: 1st in the hammer throw with a throw of 54.40m

  • Lauren Curtis: 2nd in the hammer throw with a throw of 48.62m

  • Gurleen Mander

        3rd in the hammer throw with a  throw of 46.33m

        10th in the shot put with a mark of 10.97m

  • Alexa Dow: 2nd in the mile with a time of 4:50.01

  • Samuel May: 2nd in the 2000m steeplechase with a time of 6:09.20


The 2024 Oregon Relays provided a platform for Canadian high school athletes to compete at the highest level. As they return home, these athletes carry with them a lot of momentum as they head into Championship Season with qualifying meets for the BC High School Championships fast approaching.
