Pacific Weekend Preview

This weekend, BC high school athletes will once again meet in Langley for the Pacific Distance Carnival and Canadian 10,000m Championships and the Pacific Invitational. With over 1500 entires across the events,  we can't possibly highlight everyone competing, here are just some of the athletes and races to look out for over the next few days. 

Pacific Distance Carnival and Canadian 10,000m Championships

The 800m races at the Carnival are stacked with standout high school performers. Alexa Dow, BC High School Junior Girls 800m and 1500m champion; Maya BaechlerBC High School Senior Girls 800m and 1500m champion; and Chloe Symon, BC High School Junior Girls 400m champion and 800m silver medalist will all line up for the 800m on Friday night. This will be a race to watch as some of the top high school girls 800m runners face off. 

The BC High School Champions and silver medallists from the boys side will also be competing in the 800m on Friday. Junior champion Noah Louwerse and Senior champion Hudson Irvine will line up alongside silver medallists Maverik Rahkola and Mark Molina

Yemane Mulugeta, winner of the Outstanding Performance award at the BC High School Championships and Senior boys 3000m and steeplechase champion, will line up against the best in Canada in the Canadian Men's 10,000m Championship. 

Pacific Invitational 

There will be lots of sprinting action to look out for on Saturday at the Pacific Invitational. Pishon Haughton, the BC High School Senior Boys 200m and 400m champion, will line up for the 200m and the 100m. 

Jordyn Reed, winner of the Outstanding Performance award at the BC High School Championships and the Senior Girls 100m and 200m champion, is entered in the 100/200/400m triple this weekend. 

Delaney Self broke the 12-second barrier to become the Junior Girls 80m Hurdle Champion at BCHS this year and is entered in the U18 girls 100m hurdles and the high jump this weekend. 

In the field, Talia Phangura, winner of the Junior Girls Shot Put and Discus at the BC High School Championships, will be back in the shot put circle. Gurleen Mander, Junior Girls Hammer Throw Champion, will have a busy Saturday throwing hammer, discus, and shot put.
